Thymalin is a polypeptide complex extracted from the thymus glands of cattle, developed by Professor Vladimir Khavinson at the Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology in St. Petersburg, Russia. It belongs to the class of 'cytamine' bioregulators — tissue-specific peptide preparations designed to restore the function of corresponding target organs. Thymalin works by replenishing the pool of active thymic peptides that naturally decline with age (thymic involution), thereby restoring T-cell immune function, correcting immunosenescence, and rebalancing the immune system. It has been extensively studied and used clinically in Russia for over 40 years, with a body of evidence covering immune restoration in aging, cancer adjuvant therapy, chronic infections, and longevity. A landmark study by Khavinson and Anisimov demonstrated that thymalin treatment in aged animals reduced mortality and extended lifespan.
